De Metal giganten hebben aangekondigd dat hun eigen Orion Festival het komend jaar op 8 en 9 juni in Detroit gehouden wordt. De exacte locatie wordt later bekend gemaakt.
Afgelopen jaar organiseerde ze dit festival ook al zelf en waren ze beide avonden headliner. Support acts vorig jaar waren Eric Church, Modest Mouse, Best Coast, Avenged Sevenfold and Arctic Monkeys.
Lars Ulrich tegen Rolling Stone magazine voor het festival dit jaar:
I always think that our fans are as open-minded as I am, as Metallica is, and sometimes in the past we’ve been proven wrong,” “And that’s OK, I’m not going to sit and tell people what they should or shouldn’t embrace. I don’t walk around and think they’re all Metallica fans, I think they’re all festival fans, music fans, people out for the experience. I hope our fans are going to be open and supportive of everybody that’s here, and if they’re not, I’m going to find them and kick their ass.
Voor diegene die nog hoopte dat Metallica naar Europa komt komende zomer, deze kansen zijn nu behoorlijk geslonken. Het Orion Festival van Metallica valt dit jaar sowieso samen met Rock am Ring en Rock im Park.
