Rumoured: Coldplay plan festival tour in 2019

Various media have been speculating about potential (festival) shows of Coldplay in 2019. A Spanish and Italian festival are among the rumoured performances by the English gentlemen.

Now that the current festival season is slowly coming to an end, the rumour circuit will begin to get going again for 2019. In the past few weeks there have been rumours about a possible Coldplay tour. For example, the band, co-founded by Chris Martin, has already been associated with performances at a Spanish and Italian festival.

O Son Do Camiño

The Spanish blog Rock Europa Radio seems almost certain: Coldplay is  going to headline next year’s O Son Do Camiño, which will take place in Santiago de Compostela. The blog reports that the contract negotiations between the festival and the British band are in a final phase.

O Son Do Camiño took place for the first time this year. The Spanish festival was headlined by The Killers, Lenny Kravitz and Martin Garrix.

Rock in Roma Summer Fest

According to the Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sera, Rome could also be a potential tour stop for Coldplay next year. The gentlemen are on the schedule for Rock in Roma Summer Fest, a brand new concept of the current Rock in Roma festival. The newspaper also indicates that the band wanted to visit Rome last year, but the preferred stadium was not available at the time.

Slane Castle

In Ireland, Coldplay are on top of the list of potential performers at the iconic Slane Castle next year, according to the The Irish Mirror. According to bookmakers from BoyleSports, Coldplay are a huge favourite for a performance in the backyard of Lord Henry Mountcharles. The Killers and Radiohead also have a good chance.

Festival tour

Should Coldplay start visiting festivals next year, then that would be quite remarkable. The band seemed to focus mainly on regular concerts in the past years. The last extensive festival tour dates back to 2011. In that year, the band was among the headliners of Pinkpop and Rock Werchter.

When the rumours turn out to be true, the question is of course where else the band will make an appearance. We will probably know a lot more next month. Then Hungary’s Sziget Festival will announce its first headliner. Is Coldplay perhaps the first big name that Sziget wants to reveal?
