According to Kerrang! Radio, breakfast host Sophie K, Green Day will release new music on July 19.
Nearly three years have passed since the American rock band released their twelfth studio album Revolution Radio. However, last year Billie Joe Armstrong, lead vocalist and primary songwriter of the band mentioned that he is currently in the process of writing new material for Green Day.
Now, the radio host Sophie K confirmed that the American band will be releasing new music this week on July 19. All clues point therefore towards the announcement of a new album. However, the group has not yet announced anything about a possible release.
If the rumours are true, this could also mean that the band will be also touring across Europe next year and even headline some festivals next summer. This would be then the first time since 2017 that Green Day will be performing at festivals.
You can hear a short snippet of the radio show, where the release of new material is teased below:
Green Day are an American rock band formed in 1986. Their debut studio album 39/Smooth was released in 1990. However, their major label debut happened with the release of their third studio album Dookie in 1994, through Reprise Records. The album is considered to be a milestone in Green Day’s career, selling ten million copies in the U.S alone at the time. Their seventh album American Idiot released in 2004, can be characterized as a career comeback for the band after a period of decreased success. The band has also won five Grammy Awards, while in 2015 they were also inducted into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Green Day are considered today together with Bad Religion, Rancid and The Offspring as one of the best bands of the California punk scene that achieved large-scale success in the early 90s.
