A month ago, 5000 persons enjoyed a Love of Lesbian’s concert at Palau Sant Jordi, Barcelona, with no social distancing but with face masks. At the end of April 2021, the results are official. There was no covid cases due to the event. This is a great news for all the events in the music industry, and especially for festivals.

Love of Lesbian is a famous band based in Barcelona. On March 27, they played for 5000 persons in Palau Sant Jordi, in Barcelona. The rules to attend the event were strict but full of hope for the music industry. To make it a safe experiment, all guests had to provide a negative antigenic test to enter the venue. Of course, everyone also had to keep their face masks for the duration the show. The event sold out in days. To know more about the rules all visitors had to follow, you can check our article about the organisation of the concert.

Here is a making-of about this concert in Barcelona that the band published on their YouTube channel. You can feel all the emotion to perform in front of so many people after all this time.

No sign of infection

Apart from the feeling to be back at a show, this concert is another proof that events can be safe. As BBC explains in their article, “Six people tested positive within 14 days of attending the gig in Barcelona, but the incidence was lower than that seen in the general population (…) Of the six people who tested positive, researchers concluded that four of them were infected elsewhere, not at the event itself.” There is no extra information about the two other cases, but for sure, there was no other infection at the event.

This concert is the second experiment of its kind in Barcelona. In November, another smaller concert-test took place in the Catalan city, and once again, no covid cases were reported.

A wave of shows and Festivals in Europe ?

Barcelone is an example of success in Europe that slowly tries to reopen their venues. In the Netherlands, another big concert took place, with 1.500 people enjoying electronic music together. France, after cancelling their concert-tests in Paris and Marseille planned in March, considers doing them in June. England too is a country that shows us optimism, having vaccinated a big part of their adult population and slowly reopening places like terrasses. In the same country, some festivals like Reading and Leeds still announces names, showing optimism for their 2021 edition.

In Madrid, this summer we should enjoy the festival Noches del Botánico with Woodkid as a headliner. Cruïlla in Barcelona will take place too in 8,9 and 10 June with Two Door Cinema Club, Morcheeba, Of Monsters and Men and Editors confirmed at the moment. So, we can definitely hope that tourists will be able to come to Spain this summer.
