Paris hosts one of the Global Citizen events

September 25 is a memorable day for the planet. On all continents, more than seventy artists act and sing together to defend great causes. In Global Citizen Paris, thousands of people come together to applaud some of the greatest artists in the world. Let’s take a look at the French line-up that will gather at the foot of the Eiffel Tower.

A line-up full of international artists

Before the doors open, the running order of the artists was not known yet. What we did know at this moment was that Måneskin, big winners of Eurovision 2021 and running neck and neck with France during the competition, will be in the line-up. They were previously announced in London. Speaking of London, a legend born in the English capital region is on the programme. Sir Elton John provides a moment of anthology shared with the French crowd and invites Charlie Puth on stage to sing “After All”. Wow. The legendary artist was keen to be present for the Global Citizen in Paris, even though he had to postpone his upcoming tour due to health problems.

Doja Cat and the Black Eyed Peas came with the intention of making the twenty thousand people gathered on the Champ-de-Mars dance. The French star is Christine and the Queens, whose worldwide reputation is no longer in doubt. On stage, she is joined by backing singers, who add a new and unique dimension to her songs such as “People, I’ve been sad”.

For Global Citizen, these artists take turns passing the microphone to each other at the foot of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The monument is illuminated in a masterly fashion at nightfall, as shown in these images of Doja Cat’s rehearsals.

Important special guests

In addition to being an extraordinary musical event, Global Citizen Paris invites some exceptional participants, including Angélique Kidjo, UNICEF ambassador and committed singer and writer.

Fatma Said, an Egyptian soprano, also joins the impressive list of special guests. According to the artist, she really wanted to participate in this event. She says : “I consider myself a citizen of the world and I am proud to participate in this event that forces the world to act in the face of the ecological disaster we are witnessing. She sings a breathtaking version of “Imagine” by John Lennon. Unforgettable.

Photographer and environmentalist Yann Arthus Bertrand is also on hand to defend the values of Global Citizen, speaking about the climate emergency, but above all, with his heart. His speak is one of the most emotional of the night.

Other politicians come on stage. Ursula von der Leyen is one of them and reminds how Europe will share more COVID vaccines. She also pledges to give 140 million of euros to help fight against global hunger crisis in the world. Emmanuel Macron, French president, shares the same message: France will donate the double of vaccine doses, between other commitments.

A lot of other important persons come on stage, such as Alain Bellemare from Delta International and Fatima de Gloria from Air France-KLM. The first one announces commitment to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2050.

A call to action for the planet and world hunger

Behind this event that is already making history, the artists are defending good causes, “the greatest challenges of our generation”. Poverty is the main challenge, but there are other ones. The NGO is seeking to raise six billion dollars to fight hunger around the world. It is also calling for the supply of one billion doses of vaccine against COVID-19. Then, they defend values of equity.

To participate in the Global Citizen live in Paris concert in person, it was necessary to take action and participate in challenges launched by Global Citizen. Let’s hope that the NGO will achieve through these massive events the visibility it deserves, and participate in the resolution of these important challenges.
