Going to festivals always allows us to discover some new artists. This year, because of all the restrictions, French festivals have to adapt. For this reason, many of them have a national line-up. Vieilles Charrues, that takes place for 10 days in Brittany, France, makes no exception. Let’s have a look of some of the French artists that highlights the festival this year.
In February, we could celebrate in France the Victoires de la Musique where we could guess of who would be the French artists of tomorrow. With no surprise, some of them play at French festivals like Vieilles Charrues this year. Just a few of them could have an international tour, like Woodkid. We had the chance to meet him at the festival after seeing him at the Noches del Botánico in Madrid. Therefore, Vieilles Charrues has more artists to present. Due to the restrictions this year, during the ten days three artists play every day. Here is a list of the best shows we could attend.
Faye was the headliner of Tuesday 13 July. He plays a mixture of rap and hip-hop that makes us think of good sounds we heard some years ago. The singer was born in Burundi and came to France with thirteen years old because of the genocide. These hard times made him write a lot, so he released an intense novel called Small Country (Petit Pays, but it’s translated in English as well).
On stage, the experience is incredible. The singer takes with him all the audience with his sounds and lyrics that a lot of people already knows. Despite the pandemic, Faye enjoy this summer breathe to come to the crowd and sing with everyone. What a pleasure to feel like we are back to a real concert.

This young artist got famous thanks to a version of “Les Mots Bleus” from Christophe, another French legend who played at Vieilles Charrues some years ago. With his zither and his great voice, he brings joy to the audience that enjoys every note of their songs. On his music, we can feel Greek influences that really characterizes his music. The artist is a painter as well, and gets more and more famous in the country.

Hervé is one of the new artists who became famous quite recently. With fresh French pop, the young artist attracts everyone with his energy. With a white T-shirt and his very own moves, he brings joy to Vieilles Charrues on a rainy day. He never stop to dance, not even for a minute. Hervé came on stage with a bagad, so a Breton’s troupe, which sounds logical when we know Vieilles Charrues has a strong identity. That was amazing!
His song Coeur Poids Plume is about to be a hit in France and, with a first album, Hervé might be one of the next big artists of tomorrow in France. Earlier in 2021, he got a Victoire de la Musique, and was nominated as Male Revelation.

Every French people would say that Philippe Katerine is a legend on his personal way. His craziness on stage makes every venue unique. But everything is under control. Don’t be surprised if you see him disguised on stage as Queen Elisabeth, or if he comes with a giant PCR to search something into a big nose. His song “Louxor J’adore” is a French hit since decades.

Do we have to introduce l’Impératrice? They played in most of the French festivals and were about to play Coachella before everything went wrong in the world. Their modern disco pop gave them reputation all around the globe. On stage, Flora comes with a great energy that she shares with her band. Everyone has their moment and together, they make the audience dance with no break. Their song MataHari is a success and it’s impossible not to enter the dance floor.
