Soma Records zal op 19-9 een 3CD-box uitgeven met daarop hun allervetterste tracks van de afgelopen 20 jaar. Bij het doorspitten van hun archief stuitten ze op een oude doos DAT-cassettes. Een daarvan droeg de titel: Daft Punk – Drive
We hooked up the DAT, pressed play, [and] in amongst the hiss a crackle the most monstrous 909 kick drum thudded. Daft Punk’s Drive track had been rediscovered. Playing through was Live Daft Punk; freaky vocals, pounding Roland drums & synths and that archetypal DP compression. After standing in silence, witnessing this moment, the track faded off and we heard the sound of the French spoken word that the recording had been made over; the remnants of their parents audio collection.
Het betreft dus een vergeten track uit 1994 die wellicht niet had misstaan op hun legendarische album Homework. Maandag verschijnt de Soma release, hierbij alvast de preview van Drive, gister gedraaid door BBC Radio 1.
