Open’er 2021: an overview of the biggest rumours

Summer festivals would not be as exciting without several months to speculate about which artists will take the stage next year. At Festileaks we always keep an eye out for rumours. In this article, we ask ourselves: who will we see at Open’er 2021?

We can safely assume that Open’ers first priority is to move its 2020 line-up to next year. The Polish festival already announced that artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Twenty One Pilots, ASAP Rocky, The Killers and The Chemical Brothers, who were on the bill in 2020, will perform at next year’s edition.

This is the list of the main rumours (in random order).

The Cure

As Open’er organizer, Mikołaj Ziółkowski said that he is optimistic about The Cure performing at the festival in 2021. Last year, the English rock band was announced as a headliner. What’s more, for The Cure it was the only European festival show in 2020. Will it be the same in this edition? Fingers crossed that we will see the iconic band at Kosowo Airport next summer!

Gorillaz

Gorillaz are back! Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett’s virtual project will perform at Primavera Sound, Rock Werchter and more in 2021. Open’er often shares artists with those festivals, so the English band has a real opportunity. For their lates Song Machine project, Gorillaz collaborated with acts like slowthai, Slaves, Skepta and Peter Hook. Hopefully some of these guests will also join them on stage!

HAIM

After releasing their third studio album Women in Music Pt. III, which received universal acclaim from the critics, the three sisters are ready to conquer the world. With the coronavirus pandemic preventing all shows this year, HAIM have a chance to perform at European festivals in 2021. Recently, Roskilde in Denmark and Mad Cool in Spain added them to their line-ups. Will Open’er 2021 do the same? We’ll find out soon.

Red Hot Chili Peppers

After Red Hot Chili Peppers announced the return of guitarist John Frusciante, we were all eager to see them perform. Of course, the band’s 2020 shows did not go ahead, but they will now return to Europe in 2021. The Peppers have confirmed headline shows at Pinkpop and Rock Werchter 2021, in the Netherlands and Belgium. With the renewed hype about the band, it is very possible they will add more shows, including Open’er 2021, to their tour.

Muse

In a recent interview with NME, Matt Bellamy spoke about the band’s future plans. The Muse frontman confirms that they’re likely to start recording a new record in 2021. The Englishmen have only headlined Open’er once, in 2007, so a second show at the Polish festival is more than overdue. Muse are on the line-up posters of Nova Rock 2021 in Austria and the French Eurockéennes de Belfort, which takes place around the same time as Open’er.

Who won’t perform at Open’er 2021?

During a Q&A on Instagram, Open’er said that certain stars won’t be able to perform at the festival in 2021. For example, we won’t see Taylor Swift, who isn’t planning a European tour right now. English rock band Foals won’t be able to take the stage either, because the band have other festival shows in France.
